The article deals with the blockbuster "Avatar" (USA, 2009) and its educational po-tential – especially for religious and intercultural learning in combination with the stimulation of media literacy. After an introduction concerning the relevance of the film in terms of education (1) and a summary (2) the appearance of religion in this film is pointed out (3) and the blockbuster criteria are focussed on because this aspect can be highlighted and discussed in the context of the stimulation of media literacy in combination with intercultural learning (4). Afterwards it is hinted at how the film can be useful for religious and intercultural learning with the help of Francis D'Sa’s reflections (5). Finally, aspects of “blue” religious education are mentioned – in reference to the skin colour of the Na’vi (6).
