The Beutelsbach Consensus is a normative framework for civic education. Could it also be an orientation for religious education? Debates in the present time reveal that an adequate reception needs political and historical knowledge about the background. It is important to pay attention to the legal status and the different interpretations of the three criteria of the Beutelsbach Concensus. If you take this into account, it implies problems, potentials and perspectives for its reception in the context of religious education. One main topic is the issue that civic and religious education each follow their own logic, which has to be considered in this context.
