Today, children spend a large part of their childhood in day-care centres and in institutional day-care centres for primary school children. This poses a great challenge for religious education, as it must increasingly turn to non-formal education. In religious plurality, the consideration of family religiosity within the religious education of childhood poses a further challenge. The results of child research show a socio-political integration of today's childhood, so that education critical of racism and peace education are also important aspects of religious education in terms of content.
