Religious education thinking is oriented, both traditionally and today, to a historically grown set of religious education areas. Since university religious education is closely linked to the professionalisation of religious education teachers (cf. Schweitzer & Simojoki, 2005, pp. 189-206), its attention horizon is determined by school religious education. But in community-based religious education, too, there is usually a focus on defined fields of action (cf. Überblick Adam & Lachmann, 2008, pp. 151-464): especially elementary education, youth and confirmation work, adult education, and more recently also elderly education.
